Mwalim's new CD, The Liberation Sessions is due for release early in December. The first single from the project, DEM BIG GIRLS is a rising hit among club and mixtape DJs, with the recently released music video for the song pulling in audiences on youtube, myspace, facebook and blackplanet.
Mwalim (Morgan James Peters I) is sited on Wikipedia a subcultural icon and highly influential author, playwright, pianist, composer, conductor, director, producer, editor, and essayist. He is also a tenured associate professor of English and African/African American Studies at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, specializing in drama, creative writing, digital media production, and oral traditions. Influenced by the cultures of his West Indian American (Barbados) mother and Mashpee Wampanoag father, Mwalim's music is a blend of soul, funk, and jazz.
He has shared the stage with The Four Tops, King Britt, The Last Poets, KRS -ONE, and Angie Stone. $12, $10 for members.
